Dear parents,
We have had a great first month. Here is a short overview of what we have been up to. Please ask your child to give you more details.
French:
We have been learning about reading genres – traditional literature, fantasy, realistic and historical fiction, documentaries and biographies. We will be starting reading logs by the end of this week. Students will record the books read (French and English) and set goals for themselves for the month. Students are writing self-reflection sentences in their agendas each day. During morning meetings, the students meet to share, greet and complete activities in French. This is an excellent opportunity for the students to interact in French.
English:
Students have started writing workshop with a focus on “Getting Ideas” in our writing folders. Talk to your child and help them to generate ideas for writing.
I’m starting to read aloud the book Wonder by to prepare us for Book Club (in depth book discussions).
Social Studies:
Elections, elections, elections! We are very excited about the upcoming Federal Election. We have hosted all the local candidates participating in the federal election. We are now preparing to vote (in the student vote initiative). We will vote next week.
Math:
We have learned the routines of our math centers – games, explorations, independent work, guided and practiced math. We are now exploring numbers up to one million including how to write, represent and read them (in French). Soon we will start adding and subtracting large numbers.
Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews (PST)
Next week are the PST Interviews. I am available to meet with you and your child Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5, and Friday from 8:30 to 12. If you have other children in the school, Jamie in the office is arranging the meetings for you. Let me know what works best for you.
Field Trips
We need volunteer for skating (Friday October 23rd) and swimming (Tuesday October 27th). We required two volunteers for each outing to be permitted to participate. Please come out and have some fun.
See you soon,
Mme Sabrina
