Dear parents,
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a restful and joyous holiday seasons. Thank you very much for the kind notes and gifts I have received!
We are back in full swing. Here is a quick update of things to come:
Homework:
We will be continuing our homework routine with Math coming home on Mondays, révision de la semaine on Tuesdays and our reading log on Wednesdays. These dates are meant to help you establish a routine but of course, your child is welcome to do his/her work whenever it is most convenient. Also, 20 minutes of daily reading is highly recommended.
What are we learning?
Math: Multiplication (learn your tables!), division, fractions and decimals. Also, take a look for the problem of the week: each week students have to solve a mathematical problem demonstrating reasoning, accuracy and good communication. We have also been viewing Khan academy videos to help clarify some concepts (you can also review them at home at www.khanacademy.org)
Science: We will cover a few systems of the human body. Watch for experiments and dissections.
French: We will be reading, writing and expressing ourselves around the play Le petit prince that will be presented by the whole school in May.
Computer: We are learning to code.
English: We will be discussing books during our weekly book clubs and continue the very popular writing workshop.
Social Emotional Learning: We are developing skills to help us learning and manage our emotion (empathy, listening with attention, being assertive…) with the Second Step Program.
Important dates:
We are swimming for the rest of the week everyday from 9 to 9:45.
Monday, January 18th: Scholastic orders due.
Wednesday, January 27th at 1 pm: We will go do a gallery tour and painting workshop at the YAC. I’m looking for 2 volunteers for this event.
Looking For:
Teapots. We will be having tea during our book club discussions. I’m looking for 6 teapots donations. I would be happy to reimburse you if you enjoy shopping at Sally Ann or yard sales.
Hearts! Do you have access to chicken, rabbit or any animal heart? We could use one of many for our science unit.
Art supplies: Soon we will be starting art centers. I always welcome donations of art materials (interesting paper, ribbons, fabric, wool, interesting objet for our drawing center…
Are you good with Fibre? I’m looking for an expert in Fibre Arts, from knitting to crocheting to anything to do with fabrics to help me with a fibre center. If you think you can help, please let me know.
Contact:
I will be contacting parents who wish to meet with me regarding report cards shortly, as well as sending notices to those with outstanding activity fees.
Un grand merci,
Sabrina
